Pinckney (1930?2005) was an American painter best known for his evocative depictions of Lowcountry life. Born in New York City, Pinckney moved to Daufuskie Island in 1940 when he was 10 years old. The isolated, culturally rich environment left a lasting impression on him, shaping his artistic vision. His family?s experiences in the Lowcountry during the 1920?1950 period became a central theme in his work.
