A pupil of Abraham Cooper (qv), he often collaborated with his brother Henry Barraud on joint paintings; with William concentrating on the animals whilst Henry painted the figures. His knowledge of anatomy led to his contribution of sketches to two books of animal studies. Exhibited RA from the age of eighteen.
