Description

Superb Example of a Moorcroft Flambe Pottery Lamp in the Anemone Pattern, 1940s. Measures just amp 5"x5"x15", Shade 15"x15"x11". To top assembled 26". Weight 5 lbs . The Anemone pattern was designed by William Moorcroft and put into production by his son Walter Moorcroft in 1945. The design features pink, plum, red and blue anemone flowers. Moorcroft is known for its hand painted floral motifs and a technique called tube lining, where raised slip outlines define the design. The first pieces of fine art pottery from Moorcroft were designed by William Moorcroft and launched into the world in 1897 whilst employed at James Macintyre & Co. William Moorcroft was a graduate of what is now the Royal College of Art in London, and the new art pottery was purchased strongly from the outset by such prestigious stores as Liberty of London, Harrods and Tiffany & Co. in New York. Throughout her lifetime, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II regularly took new Moorcroft designs into the Royal Collection – something about which Moorcroft is justifiably proud. Such is the reputation of Moorcroft, that many other celebrated people have taken Moorcroft into their homes including Leonard A Lauder, President of the Estee Lauder cosmetics empire, and a man who has one of the largest Moorcroft collections in the world: former US Presidents and British Prime Ministers, famous actors and singers. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Collection. **In house shipping available on this lot**
