Antique Alexander Pope Jr. Framed Chromolithograph "Redhead Duck" c 1878. Professionally framed and matted. In frame 25 3/4"x20"x1". Weight 4 lbs 15 oz. Provenance: Gippy Plantation, Avenue of Oaks, Berkeley County, South Carolina. Alexander Pope Jr. (1849-1924) is known for his illusionist (trompe l’oeil) still life paintings and his portraits of dogs, as well as his depictions of game birds. While the artists love of hunting themes pervades the majority of his work, his bird images often focus on the simple wonders of nature. Alexander Pope’s artworks are included in many important collections, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Brandywine River Museum, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the De Young Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the White House.
