Description
Early 19th c. Continental Silver Calamaio (Inkstand) Highly Decorated, Ornate, with Pierced Designs, 3 Individual Lidded Compartments, Mythological Masks and Baroque Influence. Each Compartment has a lid decorated with mythological figures, ornate winged angel feet. Probably Austro Hungarian or German, marked 13 and with other psuedo Hanau type hallmarks. Prior to 1884, each city had its own town mark and the guilds regulated the system. The purity was indicated in Lothig with 16 lothig being pure silver or gold. A mark of "13 is indicating a fineness of 13 lothig or 812.5/1000. Measures 7" long, 4" deep and 4" Tall, Weight 378 grams.
Condition: very good, 1 small cross trim missing- hard to see
