Description
Sekino Jun’ichiro, Japanese (Japan 1914 – 1988) Rice Field near Nara Woodblock 1964.. Purchased and framed in Japan. In frame 25"x19"x1". Weight 6 lbs. Sekino Jun?ichir? was a prominent sosaku hanga artist best known for his sensitive portraits of his friends and family. He was born in Aomori prefecture and was largely self-taught as an artist. After moving to Tokyo in 1939, he became one of the original members of Onchi Koshiros Ichimoku Kai (First Thursday Society). He established an international career: in 1958 he toured the United States at the invitation of the Japan Society and taught at the Pratt Institute in New York City. In 1963 he was invited to teach at Oregon State University. During his stay in the US, he also taught at the University of Washington and worked at the Tamarind Studio in New Mexico.
