Francis Bacon (1909-1992) Metropolitan Triptych (Large Version) the set of three etchings and aquatints, 1981, on Guarro paper, each printed on a seperate sheet, each signed in pencil by the artist numbered 16/99, 60/99, 39/99 (there were also 15 hors commerce impressions and 15 artist’s proofs), published by Pol?grafa, Barcelona, the full sheets, in excellent condition. Image: 387 x 295 mm.(each) Paper: 650 x 500 mm. (each). In frames 27"x32". Weight combined 30 lbs. The Irish-born artist Francis Bacon painted 28 known triptychs between 1944 and 1986. He began to work in the format in the mid-1940s with a number of smaller formats before graduating in 1962 to large examples. .Literature: Bruno Sabatier, Francis Bacon: The Graphic Work, no. 4.
