Rare Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941); designed Art Deco Straw Marquetry Box, the top and sides covered in a radiating art deco pattern Straw Marquetry, a humble traditional French material that Frank rediscovered and started using in the 1920’s – 1930’s Carved from beech wood fully covered by straw marquetry with a art deco pattern. 7 1/4"x5"x1 2/8". 10 oz. Unsigned. PROVENANCE: The Terri Henning Collection, The Peoples Building Penthouse, 18 Broad Street, Charleston SC, as seen in Architectural Digest. Jean-Michel Frank (1895 -1941) was a French interior designer known for minimalist interiors decorated with plain-lined but sumptuous furniture made of luxury materials, such as shagreen, mica, and intricate straw marquetry.
Condition: Minor wear consistent with age and use.
