Antique William Hogarth Engraving "The Politician. John Keyse Sherwin: An eminent line and stipple engraver and etcher of portraits, decorative and historical subjects, John Keyse Sherwin was born into a poor family. His considerable talents were recognized at an early age and Sherwin thus became a pupil of John Astley, in 1769. John Keyse Sherwin then enrolled in the Royal Academy Schools in 1770 and studied under Bartolozzi until 1774. Even at this time, John Keyse Sherwin was considered one of England’s finest engravers. Hence he received many important commissions, such as, The Politician, which was published by Mrs. Jane Hogarth in 1775. In frame 15"x18.5"x1". Weight 2 lbs 11 oz.
