Description
Extremely sought-after and rare Limited-Edition collection of The Novels and Tales of Henry James. Originally published by Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1907. This collection was limited to 156 copies, this is number 37 as noted on inside of each book. Printed on Ruisdael handmade paper each volume is illustrated with an original photogravure as a frontiscpiece by the famed pictoral photographer, Alvin Langdon Coburn. Bound with cream-colored buckram spines over Italian handmade papaer sides with spine labels of brown simulated leather. Henry James wrote new prefaces for this edition and there is a possible letter handwritten by Henry James included in the first volume, Roderick Hudson. This set contains 22 of the 24 original volumes with two additional volumes that were issued posthumously. Missing Volumes #10 and #15. All have blank antique book plates attached to inside front cover. Total lot weight is about 54 lbs for entire set.
Condition: good, oxidation marks from tape from previous plastic protective wrapping on books. all have loose/slightly damaged spines. discoloration due to material/age
