Description
Robert Hoffmann-Salpia (Polish/German, 1887-1983) MCM Fauvist Dimensional Rocks and Oil on Canvas Erdrutsch Akrolf (Landslide).On burlap canvas laid on board 1971. Signed on top and on bottom so it can be hung either way. In wood frame measures 33.5"x31"x1.25". Weight 16 pds. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Hoffmann-Salpia lived at times in Serdanki, Poland, Coburg, Bavaria and in Ottobrunn near Munich, manu of his works deal with impressions of these landscapes.He began as a Teacher in 1907 and taught until his father passed and his inheritance allowed him to begin his art education in Krolewiec at the art academy. Two of his professors, Arthur Degener and Eduard Bischoff became his loyal, lifelong friends. Although his first art exhibition at Riesemann and Linthaler was criticized in the press, his paintings did receive some positive interest and was compared to the work of Maurice de Vlaminck. He continued to exhibit and his works were shown in Krolewiec, Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and he also exhibited at the Louvre during a trip to France. In 1980 a large exhibit of Hoffmans work was shown near Munich and was a huge success. His paintings are in private collections, public buildings, banks, post offices and libraries throughout Europe.
