Description
Set of 4 Andy Warhol "Reigning Queens" advertisements, one signed. The Queen Elizabeth ad is autographed by Warhol in marker. Printed in 1985 in Warhol’s Interview Magazine to promote his Reigning Queens series. Each is 11" x 17". All in very good condition with light age toning. Weight 6 oz. Reigning Queens is a 1985 series of silkscreen portraits by American artist Andy Warhol. The subjects portrayed by Reigning Queens were Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Queen Ntfombi Twala of Swaziland. The images used by Warhol to make the screen prints were derived from official photographs. The images were then overlaid with Warhol’s trademark abstract blocks of color. Warhol’s Reigning Queens was shown at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City from September 1985 to October 1985. **In house shipping available on this lot**
