The Historical Romances of William Harrison Ainsworth Complete in 20 Limited Edition Volumes. Victorian Edition Limited to One Thousand Numbered Copies published by George Barrie & Son in Philadelphia circa early 1900s. Numbered 903 of 1000. Each volume is bound in beautiful blue board with deckled and gold gilt edges and includes etchings, proofs-before-letters on Japan Paper and Impressions of the Historical Portraits on India Paper. Each is also labled with title on spine. William Harrison Ainsworth born in Manchester on 4 February 1805. He was one of the most popular and widely read novelists of the 19th century. Best known for his romantic novels with vivid and colourful depictions of historical events and characters. In his time he even outsold Dickens. William Harrison Ainsworth died on January 3, 1882, at the age of 76. He is remembered as one of the greatest historical novelists of the 19th century. Each volume roughly measures 8.5" x 6" x 1.5", total lot weight is about 33 lbs.
