Description
Incredibly Rare and Scarce, Antique First Edition Complete Two Volume Set of The Yemassee, A Romance of Carolina. by William Gilmore Simms. William Gilmore Simms was a poet, novelist, politician and historian from the American South. His writings achieved great prominence during the 19th century, with Edgar Allan Poe pronouncing him the best novelist America had ever produced. The Yemassee is by far his most well known work. Both volumes are still in their original cloth binding and this particular set is extremely rare as the first volume has the copyright notice pasted inside. Published in 1835 by Harper & Brothers, New York. Each measures about 4.75 x 7.75", total lot weight is 1 lb 2 oz.
Condition: good, fair amount of foxing and ware due to material/age
